Union Meeting, 5/16/2024, Part 1
Good day carriers,
I’m sorry I haven’t posted in awhile. There was some sort of issue with the website. However, I hope to post here again on somewhat of a regular basis.
Every month, except for July and August, there is a Union meeting at the Bayshore Knights of Columbus on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. All paid union members are welcome to attend.
Here are some notes from the most recent Union Meeting in no particular order:
- There was a moment of silence for the passing of one of our fellow carriers, Justin Pugliesi, who was a Trustee on the Branch 6000 board.
- 61 new CCAs have joined our branch since last month.
- The MDA Food Drive brought in 377,000 lbs of food.
- Tom Siesto received some complaints that some carriers did not pick up food at the front doors. This is a shame, because the Long Island pantries depend on this food drive to get them through the Summer months for those in need.
- Some food was collected on Monday and will make their way slowly to the distribution centers.
- This food drive is the largest in the world.
- The retirement party for Walter Barton, Carol Brown, and Vincent Calvenese was a success with four national officers attending.
- The total expenses for the event was $15,140.
- The MDA Golf Outing is Monday.
- There are Branch 6000 resolutions that we are proposing at the NALC National Convention later this year in Boston, MA. We voted on them this evening. They are:
- 1. Senior PTFs will be converted to full time status.
- 2. MSP data will not be the sole basis for discipline. Any discipline using scanner data must be supported by physical observation.
- 3. EEO, a physical person must be available during business hours on a telephone line.</li>
I will make another entry and include more information from this meeting.
Send any questions to me.
See you soon!
